HOW IT LOOKS! Okuma Celilo 8'6" UL Spinning Rod!
On this "How It Looks" i'll be show-casing my new dedicated ultra-light spinning rig. At 8ft/6in it's the longest length available by Okuma Fishing USA. Had to wait 2-weeks for this due to the shipping. I've since added a BIGFOOT 1K ultralight spinning reel to this. Bigfoots run slightly larger in size than the average UL reels & are only available on eBay whereas i purchased the Celilo on Amazon. And yes, this combo not only looks good but feels good as well.

      @ScubaChris I know. I'm just bad at casting long rods, spinning or casting.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris День назад

      @@snipergene Remember the shorter the rod the back distance needed to cast it is shorter as well. The main most important thing is the lowering of the rod before the cast. Short rods "ie-7'9" or shorter" you'd only need a wrist flick is all . Up to 9'6" i'd use a medium back-stroke. Lower the rod tip maybe 1-2ft before that fast rise to launch it. Anything longer than 9'9" keep your hands high (like the clutched hands either shoulder high or slightly higher by a few inches) and make sure the rods behind you. A helicopter view will look like a "T". Both your wrists are fulcrums meaning they're the only moving parts. Dip the rod tip down at around 45' then with a smooth but fairly fast 1-pc motion catapult the tip in an arch with your hands moving only stopping at the opposite 45' upwards created a long graceful slow motion "snap". Not quick but guiding it fast. The rod tip should be "painting a line" that is a line for accuracy of the object being casted. After this create your own style. Baits i'd slow down the speed but increase the swing length itself so you'd get a catapulting effect without any whiplashing that'll dislodge a soft bait.

      @ScubaChris Thanks! I've give that a try. I usually use a 8'6" - 9'6" rod for ultralight whipping in SoCal. I have a lot of trouble casting a 11' rod when I'm targeting shark.

      I've seen them in stores in town like POP & online at Okuma as well. I've probable caught more fish & landed more more dunking these rods than any other rod i owned! Held an ulua during a lightning storm before i was zapped. High sticked small ray at night during testing. Till this day i still use the 10ft for my inside & 12ft for my outside for shoreline dunking. Caught many papio's to o'ios on these. Never had one break or the threading undone or the inserts popping out.

    I manage to snag a really light 4,000 size real off amazon it's a RYOBI RANMI Aotaka XP for $40. I know a bite small for the rod. It's got a 6.2:1 gear ration & only 6+1BB, but the best part is its weight is only 8.4oz. It has about the same inches' pre-turn of the Inspira ISX reel 5,000 you're using. I'm using a 11f Rockaway SP for Lake Erie walleye, but I've had 10Lbs catfish already on this pole last summer. Everyone thinks this pole is stiff, but it's actually so very sensitive, if it wasn't this sensitive. I would never be able to get light biting walleye on it. We have also have these little fish up here we call "white perch" here I can feel those fish biting as small as 2" inches long.

    Great video. I think fishing gear (for a beginner) is one area where buying cheap at the start might not be a bad idea. I don't mean dirt cheap that is a chore to use. But don't buy even middle of the range at the start. I just think firstly you may find fishing is not for you full stop. And that you have wasted a lot of cash. But more common is to find that the style of fishing you thought you would like is not your cup of tea after all. But now find you have spent a fortune on gear that is useless to you. I've waffled on! I just meant wait until you've done a little actual fishing.Then you can spend the big bucks on something you will actual use and appreciate in the medium to long term. Re your area I visited Waikīkī and Kauai in the late 90's for a week when I lived in San Francisco. It was just a general holiday. But one night I rented a crappy fishing rod and reel from one of those tourist places. I think I bought prawns as bait. I kept catching tiny moray eels and small spikey critters. I stopped after a couple of hours as I was deep hooking morays and had no unhooking equipment. I felt guilty and decided I didn't come here to kill the wildlife. Kauai was unreal. This was before you could fly direct from the US mainland. Crazy as it sounds some of the green fields near the resort reminded me of Ireland. But that's where the similarities ended! Ireland is no tropical paradise. 😊 Take it easy Chris.

    I wish okuma made a 9ft ultralight rod, i seen the celilo only goes up to 8'6... I ended up ordering a 9ft ultralight rod from a company named Phenix, thing was $400 with shipping and one piece but I think it'll be awesome, can't wait to use it

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris 11 дней назад

      The reason is pure physics. I have that 8'6" Celilo UL as well. Using "basic" materials you cannot build a longer UL rod while still maintaining a basic "thin" slender profile that won't snap on the cast. You'd have to employ more layering procedures using exotic materials to accomplish producing a longer UL rod yet retaining rigitity & distance casting capabilities. To me UL rods up to 7'6" are built soundly. The 8'6" that i have doesn't feel "sturdy" during a full powered cast for distance so i power down knowing this. There are companies that do make longer UL rods but if i'm going to spend more than 3 Bills on one i'd rather put that investment into a Whipping or Dunking rod. Yes, i think for strength a 1pc is the way to go. Most standard ceilings are just under 9ft so i wouldn't go beyond that unless it's in 2pc. And a 2pc UL at longer lengths is taking a chance on snapping on the cast. Let us know how you do with it, especially under load buddy:)

It maxxes out a 1 3/4 oz and is perfect for my fish finder rig fishing. I take a heavier rod with me for rough surf or the rocks. What about Senior Citizen discounts. I am closing in on age 74 and on a fixed income. would like to take up fishing. Any returned units that can be sold?

      On eBay. Blue Azores. Good solid reel. Most under $150. I've added Gomexus Power Knobs to a few. Kinda on the heavy side. My favorite now is the Inspira ISX 5K. On Amazon under $100. I use a Gomexus 38mm Power Knob to enhance the looks. Won the IF award for 2014. Perfect on the 11ft Rockaway SP rod. Love that combo!

    Thanks for the tip unco Chris. I remember you saying that you sometimes add tape to your rod to make it a heavier power/more stiff for casting out heavier lures. Can you please show a tutorial video on how you do that?

    Hello Chris, i wanted to know if you could buy the goture bravel fishing rod ,they say is a very good rod for the price i want to know if you could test it and inspection it to give it you're honest review it looks like they sell it on temu, there's a 8 ft one to a 13 ft if im not mistaken, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽 ✌🏻

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris 28 дней назад

      Hello, I no longer purchase anything from Temu. They kept my card# on file after i deleted it & they charged merchandise that i never ordered to my card#. After researching online i saw they do this a lot & to spy on others to create algorthymes. Goture is inexpensive but decent quality. Guides are usually SS but no inserts at times to keep the price down. I haven't heard anything bad about them at all. They sell on eBay as well. I own around 5 travel breakdown rods. All Okuma. I like them. Quality guides w/inserts. The best way to figure out if there's issues is just look at the model you're interested in on Amazon & read the comment. Fastest & best way to determine if it's worth your hard earned money. Good luck:)

    I had the solid green Combat Zone. Ball hit like a tank back in '96!! Always wanted to get the pearl version to pair with it, use it as the lanes break down but for whatever reason I never did pick one up. Think it was when I was on my Track kick when the Heat first released?

    • @ScubaChris

      The solid was to continuous for me, no flair. The pearlized version was golden. Still is. Thanks.

      @crimsontide1980 28 дней назад

      @@ScubaChris I think I had to polish it up pretty high to get it to push through the front half of the lanes?? It had a tendency to hook very early, like most Brunswick solid balls did for me back then. Was an extremely rev dominant bowler back then in the early 90s so I generally tried to stick with pearl bowling balls and generally 1500 grit polished

The only issues i have w/mag sealed is if there's a service center nearby or an affiliate drop-off location. Honestly between the 2 if you need a sealed reel get the Fuego.
